Elizabeth by Margaret V. Doran
Elizabeth
Margaret V.Doran
Curly sunlit tresses, wild in the breeze
Dirty bare toes reaching up to the trees
Pretending a trip on a swing sailing high
Delighting in life as clouds scurry by.
My beautiful child, all elbows and knees
Mind and body both as busy as bees
Laughter lives in both dimple and eye
Distrust and sadness need not apply.
Catch the sunlight, you can do it with ease
From your sailing swing on the cloud-studded seas
Joy is not something you ever can buy
Nor is it something you can ever deny.
Too soon you'll be grown and days like these
Will be lost in time like a whispered "Please"
So sail on little sister, up to the sky
Grab onto those dreams, let your spirit fly.
