Empathy (for Brenda)
Margaret V.Doran
nature . . .
embraces, enfolds you
there safely holds you
to hasten the end of torment
the wind lends its sighing
the clouds add their crying
'til all of your anguish is spent
a brook murmurs to you
the trees gently rock you
supporting you weary and drained
the sun's warmth and glow and
a bird's song sung low and
your soul finds its peace; is sustained
This is one of several poems written over the course of one year for my friend and poet Brenda Brabender who took her own life on May 21, 2003. Other titles include Falling | The Maple | Not Alone | V | Whole | Worth | Brenda is my sketch of my friend.
