Gifts

Margaret V.Doran

  branches drooping low
                gift-laden
apples scattered thick
                                and juicy
                amidst the weeds
gifts unwanted
                unneeded
offered just the same

wild gifts, uncultivated
                unplanned
just as lovely,
            just as sweet
yet, unpicked,
                fall to earth
feeding the roots
to the next generation
