Rituals
Margaret V.Doran
There is a ritual to making a latté
that makes a cup of coffee a sacrament:
it takes time and patience
it primes the senses,
prepares the nose, the taste buds
to relish the fullness of now
There is a ritual to a bath
that makes bathing a tender caress
it takes time and patience
it awakens the body
to receive quiet and peace
to dissolve spiritual fences
There is a ritual to using a fountain pen
that makes writing a celebration:
it takes time and patience;
it makes ready the spirit,
to receive wondrous gifts,
to pour forth its wisdom and grace
Rituals take us to quiet places where we can more fully enjoy and appreciate what is
